Booking An Oceanfront Hotel Room? Follow These Tips

Many people dream of one day renting a hotel room in an oceanfront hotel and then spending a week lounging on the beach, allowing all of their cares to melt away. If you're about to realize this dream, then booking your room at an oceanfront hotel is an important first step. Here are some tips to follow to ensure a good experience.

Look up the hotel's location on a map.

You might assume that an oceanfront hotel would be located directly on the beach. But in fact, some hotel marketing companies use the term "oceanfront" to refer to any hotel within walking distance of the beach or within a beachside community. There's nothing wrong with staying at a hotel five minutes from the beach, but if you're counting on an oceanfront view, then you don't want to arrive to find your hotel further inland. Look at a hotel on a map before booking to ensure you know exactly where it's located in relation to the ocean.

Book directly through the hotel.

Instead of booking through a third-party website, call the hotel directly. You often get a better deal this way. Plus, some third-party websites oversell rooms and then transfer people to nearby hotels, which would be a disappointment if you planned on staying right on the water but got transferred elsewhere. When you book directly, you can also ask the hotel workers more questions, such as those referenced below.

Ask whether the room has an oceanfront view.

Most oceanfront hotels have rooms that face the ocean and rooms that face away from the ocean. You'll pay more for a room that faces the ocean. Decide ahead of time whether this is worth the extra cost or whether being on the water is enough without the ocean view. Then, make sure you specify whether you want an ocean view or not when booking the room.

Ask whether the hotel has direct beach access or a private beach area.

When booking your room, ask whether the hotel has direct beach access or not. Some hotels are situated so that you have to walk out the front door and down the block to actually get to the beach. Others are laid out so you can step right onto the beach. Either is fine, but you want to know what you're getting.

Staying in an oceanfront hotel can be so much fun! Follow the tips above to ensure your vacation goes smoothly and is memorable.
