Make Use Of Windowsills And Ledges

Does your dream apartment have lots of windows that let in natural light? If so, you can use this sunlight to help grow a variety of different indoor plants. Some plants can thrive on windowsills if they are properly cared for. If you are a fan of cooking, you should consider growing some herbs indoors.

Herbs like basil, oregano, and rosemary are ideal for growing on windowsills. These plants do need sunlight, but they are very drought-resistant and require very minimal maintenance. Keep each herb in a separate container, and rotate each container 180-degrees about once per week. This ensures that all sides of the plant get a good dose of sunlight.

Convert Your Balcony Or Patio

If you pick out an apartment that has a large balcony or patio, you have the perfect opportunity to create an outdoor garden. Even with a smaller outdoor area, you have the sunlight and air that many different plants need. You can simply get creative with different inexpensive materials to make the most of your space.

For example, you can use wooden crates for tomatoes and other foods that need ample growing room. You can prop wooden pallets upright against the wall to create individual shelves for flowers, herbs, and more. Planters that attach to your balcony's railing can free up space for outdoor furniture. With a little experimentation and imagination, you can certainly build a beautiful apartment garden.

Plan Ahead While Apartment Hunting

Is having a garden non-negotiable for you? If so, you should keep this in mind as you hunt for apartments. Look for apartments that have large windows that get direct sunlight. Make note of the patio or balcony size, too.
